Saturday, February 21, San Francisco's Effection group brought
together "Boundaries," a breathtaking showcase of talent in fashion design,
visual art, architecture, and DJs. While each element of the evening's show
was stellar in quality and in content, the fashion show was a special
testament to the burgeoning creative talent we have surrounding us.
Effection's fashion show started out with Chika Azumaya. Emblazoned with
zippers, and always tartan plaid, this collection set the tone for the
evening's show: style, attitude, and above all, confidence. The precise
pleats, dangling straps, and peekaboo zippers all shouted a defiant "oh
bondage, up yours!" along with the music.
striking
were flirty-sweet designs by Meng Lau. Showing a variety
of cute and sassy textiles on a few streamlined silhouettes, Meng Lau
brings versatility to a level all on its own. Her philosophy: "I was
taught
you don't expensive clothes to express your style. All you need is a
needle, a string of thread, a piece of fabric, and your imagination."
Breathtaking as usual were Bruce Beasley's evening gowns: intricately
designed and impeccably crafted (sewn by Beasley himself.) These
garmets were only ehanced by the elegance and confidence of models like Tara
and Bella. Dramatic lace and sensational styling make Bruce's gowns truly
unforgettable.
mission is to raise awareness and support for charity, while
also bringing art, design, and architecture together. Other designers in
the show were Anya SF, Evarize, Hyun Sun Kim, and Madison. "Boundaries" was
a benefit event for Upward Bound, a non-profit program, which provides
low-income youth with the opportunity to pursue college education.
Salutations to Effection for bringing the soul back into San Francisco's
night life.
