SI: What do you look for in portfolio submissions?
KQ: I look for strong continuity within a book. It should follow a specific storyline. Lighting is one of
my personal markers. I am a stickler for great lighting. It can make or break an image. Also, with the
technology available now, a portfolio that hasn't been throughtfully laid out or retouched is the kiss of
death for me.
SI: If a photographer wishes to submit a portfolio, who should they contact?
KQ: They can call me directly at (212) 631-0383. I usually only see books at the beginning of the
week.
SI: Will there ever be a print edition of ZOOZOOM?
KQ: We are in the process of putting together a coffee table book which will consist of the "Best of ZOOZOOM" during
its first five years. After this, we will consider an annual which will include a CD and an exclusive editorial.
SI: Can we expect to see more technological innovations from the web site?
KQ: Absolutely! We are currently exploring new territory with DV film as well as new medium programming to
increase more diverse editorials. It is an ongoing process which we will continue to expand upon.
